Viva 2014! (The Year of the Juggling Writer)

It’s January, the first month of the first full year during which I’ll be a full-time stay at home, “juggling” author. I’m happy to announce that I’ve now entered Phase 2 of my working-from-home mode, which means that I am actually getting dressed before noon. Heck, let’s be honest, during many days over the last six months I never changed out of my pajamas at all, showers were just a pipedream for my family, and razors grew rusty from disuse. BUT NOW my pajama days are (mostly) behind me, and jeans and T-shirts rule again. So, forward progress on the pajama front. Yay!

A New Book!!!

More exciting than me actually smelling nicer is the release of my newest book, THE GREAT JACKALOPE STAMPEDE. This is the third book in my Jackrabbit Junction Mystery series in which I introduce Claire’s oldest sister, Veronica “Ronnie” Morgan.

J3. The Great Jackalope Stampede

NYT Bestselling Author Gemma Halliday was kind enough to give me the following cover quote: “Cool characters, a clever
mystery, and a ton of laughs!”

Not since the Great Jackalope Stampede of ’58 has tumbleweed-choked Jackrabbit Junction, Arizona seen so much action. Claire Morgan is determined to unravel the mystery behind a stolen treasure before goons come gunning for it–and her family. But all the strangers roaming around town have her anxiety red-lining. Then her mother shows up …

iStore: (Coming soon! Keep an eye out for it.)

** BONUS SCENE ** At the end of the book, there is a link to a secret, password-coded page on my website that contains a bonus scene in a PDF file format. Be sure to use the bonus scene link to access the secret page and enjoy one more scene with Claire and crew after you finish the story.

Audio Version of the Jackrabbit Junction Mystery Series

Great news! I have contracted with professional narrator/voice artist, Lisa Larsen, to read the first book in my Jackrabbit Junction Mystery Series. We’ll be getting the other two books contracted soon. She is going to begin recording the books in February. I hope to have all three available by this summer for those of you thinking about taking a fun road trip vacation and would like something different to listen to other than static on AM radio stations when you’re in the middle of nowhere. The audiobooks will be available on Amazon,, and Apple/ iTunes.

Note: The second book in my Deadwood Mystery Series, OPTICAL DELUSIONS IN DEADWOOD, will be available in an audio format in February. I’ll share the links for this in my newsletter next month.

Website Spruce Up

I’ve been spending some time sprucing up my website, making it easier to navigate and adding fun stuff about the Jackrabbit Junction Series (located under the ANN’S SERIES menu option). I hope you enjoy the new pages and extras!

What’s Next?

boot photo only

I’m in the process of writing the fifth Deadwood Mystery Series book right now, titled AN EX TO GRIND IN DEADWOOD. For those of you who follow me on Facebook, you’ll be seeing posts showing my progress as I go, chapter by chapter. The goal is to have this book out early this summer. I’m already busy working with my cover graphic artist (Sharon Benton) and my cover artist/illustrator (Chuck Kunkle) to get the cover created for this book. It’s so much fun to watch them take an idea and turn it into an awesome cover!

After I finish with the fifth Deadwood book, I’m going to publish the first book in a new series that will start Violet’s brother, Quint Parker. These will be archaeological-based mysteries that will fulfill the Indiana Jones wanna-be in my head. My goal is to release this book in the fall. I’ll share more information on this book after Deadwood #5 is done.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your support in 2013. Cheers to another year of fun stories and lots of laughs together!

Just finished The Great Jackalope Stampede! I thought the scene with Ronnie trying to get the sheriff Harrison to arrest her was one of the funniest I have ever read! I laughed until tears rolled down! Thank you for such a wonderfully entertaining series. I look forward to each and every one of them eagerly. I am now about to start the Deadwood Series which from what everyone says is just as great! Thank you again for providing your readers with such wonderful worlds as Jackrabbit Junction. Kathy Keller

Thanks, Kathy. I have a fun time writing Ronnie and Grady scenes. Did you read Rowdy Coyote Rumble already? That is the fourth book in the Jackrabbit series full of more of the Morgan sister’s adventures. It released at the tail end of January. Thank you for reading them and I hope you get a big kick out of Violet’s adventures in Deadwood. You’ll see some cameos from some folks from the Jackrabbit series in the Deadwood series. :) Ann

I have just finished reading all of your Deadwood and Jackrabbit Junction stories. I have been a book addict since I learned how to read. I can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoyed each and every one of your books. They are filled with interesting and loveable characters and the plots are very entertaining. I just wanted to thank you and let you know that I think you are a very talented writer. I can’t wait for the next one.

    • Ann Charles says:

      Hi Tina,

I’m glad you enjoyed both Violet and Claire’s adventures. I’ve had a lot of fun hanging out with the characters from both series. We must share a sense of humor. Thank you for giving my books a try. I appreciate you writing to tell me you like my writing. You put a smile on my face today. :) Take care, Ann

I have been an avid reader my whole life and I have never met characters I enjoy more than Violet, Doc, Harvey and Cooper. Thank you so much for bringing these people to life for me, cannot wait to read about their future adventures!

    • Ann Charles says:

      Hi Sherry,
Thank you very much for the kind words. I’m glad you have as much fun with Violet, Doc, Harvey, and Cooper as I do. I’m working on the 5th book in that series right now, which hopes to have it out this summer. So, stay tuned for more fun with them. I’m chuckling often as I type. :)

I’ve fallen in love with 3 women; Claire, Ronnie and Kate. I’m headed for Jackrabbit Junction, specifically The Shaft. I’ll decide when I arrive which one I love and that will determine whether I have to fight Sheriff Hardass, Butch or Mac. On second thought, maybe I’ll just join the old guys, sit in the shade, drink beer and watch the young ones get into more trouble.

    • Ann Charles says:

LOL! You’ll find me siting with the old guys, drinking. It’s too much fun to watch all three women get into trouble. I’m glad you enjoy hanging out in Jackrabbit Junction.
      See you there!

  5. Betty Herring says:

I would love to read the bonus also, but can’t download. Loved these books. Going to deadwood now!

    • Ann Charles says:

Hi Betty, are you trying to access the bonus scene from your ereader or phone? If so, you may need to try to access it from your computer. You may also need to download a .pdf viewer (Adobe .pdf viewer is a free download). Sorry for any inconvenience this caused. Take care, Ann

  6. Leslie Gordon says:

I loved it! Can not wait to see what trouble finds the Morgan sisters next. I am addicted to Jackrabbit Junction and Deadwood.
I miss the characters after I finish reading the books. Thanks for the work you have put into making them great!

    • Ann Charles says:

Leslie, I’m glad you enjoy both series. I have a lot of fun hanging out with all of the characters. I appreciate you writing to me and look forward to sharing more stories with you. Take care, Ann

  7. Monica says:

Loved the book! I’m having trouble finding the bonus scene, I entered it exactly as it is in the book but only receive error messages. Truth is the book was so good I don’t need the bonus scene but it’s the dangling carrot!

  8. Michelle Low says:

Great work as always. And I seriously can’t get enough of your art cover. A great front cover goes a long way and can hook someone so easily you have nailed it.
